Your custom build home needs the perfect ceilings to complement the style and personality of the home.

Your custom built home is a great opportunity to design outside of the box.  Don’t forget to look up and add some detail  with your ceiling choices. Did you know that there are several types of ceilings that you can choose from? A great ceiling can add architectural interest and even be a great conversational starter.

Here are four types of ceiling styles for your custom built home to get you started:

Exposed Beams

Exposed ceiling beams happen when the builder doesn’t finish the ceiling completely but allows the beams to show. These can be wood or steel and give a room more of a rustic feel. You can also leave pipes exposed as well, which will create a loft-like vibe.

Tray ceilings

Tray ceilings are ceilings that have have a cut-out, usually in a square or rectangular shape, which is recessed into the ceiling. Lights and chandeliers can be placed within the recessed part of the cut out as well. For added interest that will draw the eye upwards and bring attention to beautiful lighting you can paint the recessed part of the ceiling in a complementary color. These ceilings can be used in any room of the house to bring a touch of glamour and tradition to the home.

Coffered ceilings

Coffered ceilings are similar to tray ceilings except there is a repeating pattern of sunken square or rectangular shapes throughout the room. Many times the sunken area is bordered by beautiful molding. The sunken area is painted another color to highlight the architectural design. This ceiling option can bring a high level of elegance to any room.

Vaulted ceilings

Vaulted ceilings are ceilings that are angled towards the shape of the roof. There are a few options for vaulted ceilings. The ceiling can meet in the middle, mimicking the shape of the roof, or the ceiling can just reflect one side of the roof. Vaulted ceilings are a great way to make a room seem even more spacious. Adding a skylight to a vaulted ceiling  will create an even more dramatic effect helping your room to feel luxurious and grand.
