Indianapolis Home Builders: What’s Missing In Your Laundry Room

Indianapolis home builders can help you design the perfect laundry room!

How much time do you spend in your laundry room? How many loads do you have to throw in the washer every week? Every day? It may not always be the highest priority room in your home, but the laundry room is essential to every custom home and everyday life. Indianapolis home builders, like Hamilton Homes can help you change the way you see your laundry room.

Here’s the problem: you don’t like doing laundry and your laundry room isn’t helping the situation. Plus, these things aren’t helping anything:

  • The standard laundry room isn’t as functional as it could be. There’s hardly any room to move around once you have your loads sorted. And, there’s no place to do things like iron clothes that come out of the dryer with a wrinkle or two and no place to fold clothes, which causes more wrinkles.
  • Laundry rooms aren’t typically built with design or detail in mind. There’s a good chance your current laundry room is four small walls, a washer, and a dryer. There’s no good place to store anything and nothing pleasing to the eye. The room feels cold and just going in there is a chore.
  • Laundry rooms are built in inconvenient spots in homes. Where is your laundry room? Behind the kitchen? Right inside the door from the garage? In the garage?
  • The laundry room isn’t big enough to handle all that you need it to handle. You have load after load to do. It’s a never ending task not to mention the pile of shoes and sports equipment in the corner. Where are you supposed to put everything?

When working with Indianapolis home builders, start planning your laundry room early with an expert custom home builder to make sure you have everything you need. Because you spend so much time in your laundry room, you need a space you love, functions the way you need it to, and is convenient for you to use.

  • The first step is picking out features that make your laundry room the most efficient it can be. A folding counter means you don’t have to use the dining room table to finish laundry. A deep sink means you can wash off muddy cleats before putting them away or work on tough stains before throwing clothes into the washer. Shelving means your detergent, bleach, and other cleaning products are just a short reach away, so you don’t have to set it all on top of the dryer.
  • Design your laundry room like the rest of your home. Take the time to actually think about a color scheme, hang pictures of your family or other art pieces. When you do this, you’ll have something to look at when doing your laundry other than a blank wall or the washing machine. You’ll also have way more pride in the room.
  • Put the laundry room someplace convenient for you. If you’re constantly going up and down the stairs to do laundry, you should consider a second laundry room upstairs. Don’t just tuck the room in a corner of your home and hope it works out. Place it where you most need it to lighten the load.
Make the room a big as it needs to be. If you’re only doing one load of laundry every other week, you probably don’t need a huge laundry room. But, if you’re doing 30 loads a week, you’ll want the room to be large enough to iron, fold clothes, and separate lights from darks without having to use every other room in your house.

You may never enjoy doing laundry, but that doesn’t mean you can’t love your laundry room. By working with Indianapolis home builders and designing a laundry room you love, you’ll end up lessening the burden of the chore, plus you’ll love the design of the room so much that you won’t dread having to walk in there every time you need to do laundry.
